Stepping Tones

Stepping Tones, located in Derby and serving the Derby City Council area, provides engaging music lessons and workshops for individuals of all ages. The club welcomes students aged 4 to 75, offering a comprehensive musical journey from complete beginner to advanced Grade 8 standard. Lessons focus on developing essential musical skills, covering performance, playing techniques, music theory, and musicianship.

Students are encouraged to cultivate creative expression through composition, songwriting, and improvisation, exploring their unique musical voice. All programmes are led by highly qualified tutors, exemplified by Alex Bowen, who holds multiple degrees and diplomas, including an MSc in Psychology and a Certificate in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, alongside extensive teaching experience since 2002. This expertise ensures a high standard of instruction delivered through fun, engaging, and enjoyable lessons. Stepping Tones significantly fosters confidence and self-belief by providing a supportive platform for students to proudly display their developing talents.

The curriculum actively promotes teamwork and collaboration through activities such as joint piano playing, culminating in shared musical performances. Physical skills are also integrated into learning, with dedicated instruction in breathing techniques, muscle relaxation, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics, which develops coordination and control through movement. The club offers tailored support for a diverse range of learning, social, and emotional needs, including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ensuring an inclusive environment.
